How much marketing budget to hit a revenue target
Work backwards from the goal to the spend — and learn which acquisition channels you can actually afford at your unit economics.

There is no single right marketing budget — there is the budget your goal requires. Work backwards: the revenue target sets the customers, the customers set the leads, and the leads set the spend. Every channel then gets judged against your economics, not against a blog post's average.
Channels you can afford vs channels you want
Paid channels buy speed at a fixed price per customer. If that price is above your margin, scaling them scales your losses. Content and SEO are cheaper per customer but take roughly six months to ramp to repeatable volume — they are an investment, not a faucet.
- Paid social / search: fast, fixed cost per customer, scales losses if margin is thin
- Content / SEO: ~6 months to ramp, lowest long-run cost per customer
- Community & outbound: cheap but slow, hard to forecast
Pick the channel your unit economics can pay for — then the budget is a decision, not a guess.
